DESCRIPTION:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Your trip to Arequipa wouldn’t be complete without visiting its sillar quarries. The tourist route is located in the Cerro Colorado district, 14 kilometers northeast of Arequipa (45 minutes by car). During the journey, you’ll not only see how the main architectural material of the ‘White City’ is worked, but you’ll also appreciate impressive natural landscapes. The tour covers a distance of 2,000 meters and allows visitors to explore the A\u00f1ashuayco, Cortadores, and Culebrillas quarries.<\/p>\n

The journey takes around 3 to 4 hours. Although there’s no recommended age for participating in the Sillar Route, you should consider that the tour involves continuous walks of up to 40 minutes to explore the quarries. At the A\u00f1ashuayco quarry, you’ll see small sculptures, shields, and many other pieces worked in sillar. You’ll also see how large stone blocks are extracted. The experience is complemented by a demonstration of cutting and carving a sillar block. Another stop is Culebrillas, where you’ll take a hike through the quebrada and appreciate petroglyphs engraved on the cliffs. We recommend wearing sports clothing, comfortable shoes, and sunglasses for the trekking.<\/p>\n
